In Solarwinds new version 2020 they introduce new dashboards, we will go over the new dashboards and how to set them up in this article.
Create a dashboard
- Click Settings > Manage Dashboards.
- Click Add modern dashboard.
- Provide a name and click Create.
If you want to start working on your new dashboard check the box for Immediately open this dashboard.
By default dashboards are set to private, so only you or an administrator can view it until you go into the visibility settings and change it.
To do this, go back to Manage dashboards, find the dashboard you just created and click the “Set visibility” link, it will allow you to make it public.
Adding widgets
To add a new widget you need to click and drag the “Drag to create new widget” button on the top right of the page.
That will create a new widget on the page for you, then we need to configure it. You should have something like the picture below.
Click finish configuring. That will bring up a new window where we can pick a widget.
There are 4 default ones from “Empty Widgets” any new ones you create will show up in this list also.
For this, we are going to select table widget from Empty Widgets. Now you should have a blank widget on your dashboard.
Click the 3 dots to edit the widget. Here you can expand the presentation field and fill out the blanks with title, subtitle ect. Notice the Optional Widget Link URL? Here you can provide a link to another Orion URL or other external URL. The widget will display the ‘Explore Data’ button on the top right-hand side.
Now to add some data to this widget, click the data model, then click use graphical query builder and click edit.
It will bring up the “Edit tabular data model” page. Here we are going to select a node.
Once you have your data you want to monitor selected, you will need to add a column for each data point.
You will need to change the format based on what kind of data you are trying to display.
For CPU we selected Orion Entity, changed the label to Caption, which will display the caption of the node in the column.
We also changed the detailsUrl, this makes the label clickable, allowing you to quickly navigate to any of the nodes displayed.
Once all of your columns are set up with your values you will see a real-time view of how the widget will look before you click save, this allows you to quickly and easily make changes and see how they will affect things.
